This is part 2 of the ‘Make Tamarindo Costa, Rica Your Next Vacation’ series by WhatHappensInTamarindo.
Thanks to the Costa Rican government and local tourism chamber boards funds were set aside to create a new terminal at the Liberia International Airport (LIR) (a.k.a Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport). The terminal opened on the 12th of January 2012.
Since then, the area surrounding has benefited greatly. The entire country is on the rise as a prime tourist location. In 2016 the total numbers of international visitors reached 2.9+ million people. This # is on the rise each and every year.
I’m a Canadian citizen, so I’m going to focus on travel routes within North America. The following cities are lucky enough to have direct flights to Liberia International Airport (LIR):
- Los Angeles
- New York
Seasonal Direct Flights:
If you book 2-3 months in advance, flights are relatively affordable.
Here’s a flight from New York to Liberia:
And this one from LA to Liberia:
As you can see, as long as you prepare in advance, it’s manageable for a round-trip.
This guy is the man! On our first trip, he was waiting for us as soon as we came out of the airport. He was excited to teach us about the local customs and was a great introduction to Costa Rica. When you’re ready to plan your trip, shoot us an email, and we’ll happily introduce you to Ivan so that you can have a good start to your trip. He’ll take you right to your hotel (or preferably our AirBnB!).
And that all but wraps it up.
